As the country gears up for London 2012, events are springing up across the UK inĀ anticipationĀ for the fast approaching summer games.
Musicroom Exeter will be doing their bit to get into the Olympic spirit on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th March by taking part in Music Nation: Olympic Rings.
Organised by ExTunes, the Exeter university music society,Ā Olympic Rings is a performance piece made up of interlocking rhythms from five continents,Ā taking inspiration from the official five ring symbol of the Olympic games and its message of unity and cooperation.
Families are encouraged to take part, with an afternoon workshop on the Saturday for participants to learn the piece. There will also be a number of fun activities throughout the day including the chance to build aĀ hosepipe brass instrument, try out steel pans and have a go at African drumming.
The workshop takes place from 2pm till 6pm at Kay House Duryard, Lower Argyll Road, University of Exeter, EX4 4RG. See map (right) for directions.
The concert is set to take place on the Sunday evening at 7pm with a final run through beforehand at 6.15pm.
Tickets are £5 per participant and include drumsticks, supplied by musicroom Exeter, a T-shirt and free entry to the concert on Sunday 4th.
