Join the party at the Exmouth, and help get the festival weekend off to a great start!  This will be an informal get-together for anyone who’s in town (including some of the artists) to play, chat, listen, drink, jam, compare, celebrate, and generally enjoy the company of other uke players and festival fans.

An action-packed day!

  • awesome ukulele artists from around the world performing live on the town hall stage.
  • workshops for all abilities (pre-booking essential – visit our Workshops page for details) – be inspired to learn something new or hone your existing skills, under the guidance of top teachers.  And, back by popular demand, the chance to make a very special Utterly Butterly Uke.
  • Loads of stalls – buy a new ukulele, choose your next Christmas present, or spend happy hours just lusting after the amazing array of instruments on offer.  There’ll be a wide array of other irresistible ukulele merchandise too.

Food and drink will be available in the town hall throughout the day so there’s no need to miss anything.

Sunday 18th June – Big Busk and Chill Out

Cheltenham town centre / The Exmouth Arms, Bath Road
11.00am – home time

Help us take Cheltenham by storm with another BIG busk – hopefully with even more players playing than in 2010 (about 200!).  Meet in the Imperial Gardens at 11.00am, ready to strum your way along the Promenade and play outside Waterstones, starting at 11.30am.
The rest of the day is for “relaxing” at the Exmouth – strumming, jamming, chilling.  There will be open mic sessions and more opportunities to buy from our fabulous stalls before you head for home.  Oh, and a barbecue…
Please see details below for some of the fantastic artists appearing!
UKULELE BARTT

Ukulele Bartt is recognized around the world for his “Fancy Fingers” workshops and his dazzling musical performances. The Los Angeles Times calls him a “modern-day master.”
In addition to his playing prowess, he is equally acclaimed for being as much fun as you can have with four strings. Jim Beloff calls Bartt “a fearless uke player who combines his significant chops and wacky sense of humor to teach uke basics, as well as much more advanced techniques.”
Bartt’s wide spectrum of musical influences ranges from Flamenco to Beatles to Beethoven. As he traverses the planet, he brings home new ideas. You might learn just about anything at his next workshop!

STEVEN SPROAT

Steven needs no introduction to the ukulele world, as he is probably one of the UK’s best known ukulele players, with countless credits to his name – including his daughter, Gabrielle, who you may have noticed will also be performing this year.
I suspect we may be seeing Steven perform some tracks from his new album, “Full Circle” a track from which was recently played on BBC Radio 2.
