Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" Has Now Credited The Gap Band

Fresh from the Marvin Gay Estate/Robin Thicke furore, Mark Ronson’s chart smashing “Uptown Funk” with Bruno Mars now has credited The Gap Band as one of their ever growing list of 11 songwriters. The band staked a claim that the song  had marked similarities with their own hit “Oops Upside Your Head” back in February – the success of this claim means they now own 17% of the publishing rights to it which is a pretty sizable chunk.
Ronnie Wilson, Charles Wilson and Robert Wilson of The Gap Band, along with producers of “Oops Upside Your Head” Rudolph Taylor and Lonnie Simmons, join Ronson, Mars, Jeff Bhaskar and Philip Lawrence as songwriters for the track.
Nicholas Williams and Devon Gallaspy are also both credited, due its use of a sample from the track “All Gold Everything”.
Having sold 5 million copies in the US alone and setting new streaming record, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 consecutive weeks and was at #1 in the UK for 7 weeks it’s little wonder so many musicians are trying their best to get their hands on a small part of this particular pie.
