Lady Gaga reigns at MTV EMAs in Belfast

Lady Gaga was the most successful act at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night (November 6th), picking up a total of four gongs.
She took away the awards for Best Female, Best Song and Best Video for Born This Way and Biggest Fan, recognising her fanbase, also known as ‘little monsters’.
Speaking backstage, the singer said that she was “really overwhelmed” by the string of awards and never expected it.
“Every time I make a new record or write a new song, I start from the bottom up again. I never anticipate or perceive that anything will come to me easily,” she said.
Lady Gaga also performed at the ceremony at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. She sang Marry The Night, the first performance of the song in Europe, while sitting atop a model of the moon in a bright red outfit.
Hosted by Selena Gomez, it was the first time that the MTV Awards has been held in three separate venues. As well as the main event in the city’s arena, Snow Patrol played a free gig at City Hall and Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at Ulster Hall.
Lead singer of the Northern Ireland band Gary Lightbody welcomed MTV for bringing its award show to Belfast, stating that it is an “incredible opportunity for people to think about the music in Northern Ireland”.
Other performances on the night included Jessie J, who sprang out of a giant safe before singing Price Tag, while Coldplay opened the event with Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall. There was also a tribute to Amy Winehouse.
Justin Bieber picked up two awards for Best Male and Best Pop, while Bruno Mars won Best Push and Best New. Other multi-award winners included 30 Seconds to Mars, who won Best Alternative and Best World Stage.
Katy Perry, Linkin Park, Eminem and Korean band BigBang also won awards.
