The products were named as Best Music Hardware of the Year and Percussion Product of the Year respectively by Future Music and Music Radar.
“Whether it’s guitars, controllers, drums, DAWs, synths or amps that float your boat, 2010 has been another amazing year for gear releases,” Music Radar said ahead of the awards.
Selected from hundreds of new releases over the course of 2010, the editors and readers of Guitarist, Total Guitar, Guitar Techniques, Computer Music, Future Music and Rhythm magazine chose the shortlists for the awards.
The final standings were decided by a public vote from the various publications’ readers.
According to Korg, the second-generation Wavedrum boasts an innovative design, unparalleled performance possibilities and unique sounds. Responding to the users’ touch, the instrument is able to produce a wide range of percussion sounds.
Meanwhile, the compact Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer is bursting with technology and has been streamlined to make it as easy to use as possible. The panel contains only five knobs and one switch, but still retains Korg’s “legendary analogue technology”.
Commenting, the manufacturer thanked everybody who had voted in the two categories, adding: “Korg products throughout the range continue to stand for the highest standards in excellence and innovation.”
Both instruments fought off strong competition in their respective groups, with new releases from Pioneer, Roland and Yamaha all represented.
Meanwhile, other categories which were up for contention included Electric Guitar of the Year, Acoustic Guitar of the Year, Amplifier of the Year and Music Software of the Year.
