The Destiny’s Child singer showed her determination to find an act with a spark by plucking one contestant from a failed group.
Girl Group Twisted took to the stage to sing Adele’s smash hit Someone Like You in order to impress the judges.
Given that the song remains in the top 20 despite being launched in January this year, it seemed like a safe choice for the quartet, which consisted of Katie, Paige, Cheryl and Chrissie Pitt.
Pitt was unsuccessful in her attempts in last year’s X-Factor, getting to the boot camp stage before being dumped from the competition.
Unfortunately, despite a unique rendition of Adele’s hit the group were turned down, with Rowland questioning if the band were put together in order for Pitt to “hide behind”.
Rowland was not willing to let it lie though and invited Chrissie to come back and try again as a solo artist.
The Newcastle local reluctantly agreed and performed a cappella version of Cee Lo Green’s Forget You.
Much to Rowland’s delight, fellow judges Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos agreed and Chrissie was put through to try her luck once again.
Meanwhile, Tulisa has turned Ndubz band mate Dappy into a fan of her latest work.
The outspoken rapper has been heavily critical of the X-Factor in the past but now concedes that the current panel of judges is very strong.
However, Tulisa may need to work hard to stay on the panel as Dappy has signalled the beginning of the end for Ndubz.
He told Now magazine: “The judges this year are the best ones I’ve ever seen on that panel. Simon, you’ve got some work to do – Gary Barlow’s taking your place. Tulisa’s amazing, too.
“We may release some stuff every six months but it will definitely be quieter. Then, at the end of that period, we will do a Greatest Hits or Best of N-Dubz. Then that’ll be it, finished.”
