John Harle wins 2013 Ivor Novello for ‘Best Television Soundtrack’

Music Sales composer John Harle has won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Television Soundtrack.

The award was presented to Harle today at a ceremony in London for his score to the BBC documentary Lucian Freud: A Painted Life.
Broadcast last year, the film followed the celebrated artist as he painted what would prove to be his final work, a portrait of his assistant David Dawson, and featured testimonies by those who knew and loved him.
Having given his full backing to the project before his death in 2011, the documentary was made even more poignant, with Harle’s score commended for how it interpreted the themes and emotions of Freud’s life.
John Harle also recently received a GRAMMY nomination for the soundtrack and has previously won several  RTS Awards.
Before becoming an award-winning composer, Harle was already a leading musical figure, performing as one of the most prominent saxophonists of his generation. Since then he has gone on to write a number of notable commissions for the BBC Proms, released two albums on the Argo label and written scores for over 40 productions for the BBC and Channel 4 including History of Britain and Silent Witness.
