Jody Tablot prepares for two North American debuts

Jody TalbotAs the spring music season continues at a blistering pace, it has been announced that two ballets with scores by G. Schirmer composer Jody Talbot are due to be featured in upcoming performances.
Both Chroma and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will be showcased later this year in North America.
The former is set to original compositions by Talbot as well as the composer’s arrangements of songs by Jack White of The White Stripes. It is due to be performed at the San Francisco Ballet between April 7th and 20th this year.
In total, Chroma is made up of seven pieces of music, with four of these written by Talbot. The remaining three pieces are the composer’s own orchestral arrangements of three tracks originally by The White Stripes.
Following this, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is also due for its North American premiere on June 4th to 25th. The work is a co-production between The National Ballet of Canada and The Royal Ballet.
“I’ve been writing the music for Alice for nearly two years now, and have completely loved immersing myself in Lewis Carroll’s strange and beautiful world,” Tablot said.
The ballet has been written by Christopher Wheeldon and brings to life Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s tale.
Its creation represents the first time in 20 years that the Royal Ballet has commissioned a full-length ballet score, with Tablot’s score attracting critical acclaim from reviewers.
“The book is such an extraordinary source of inspiration and collaborating with The Royal Ballet and Christopher Wheeldon on turning it into a full-length ballet has been one of the most exciting challenges of my compositional life,” the composer added.
