'Glee' Breaks Elvis Presley's Record

The hit TV show Glee is in the news again. This time for breaking Elvis’ record for ‘most singles’ as recorded by Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
With 113 single entries, as well as toppling The King, they have also topped James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and The Beatles.
Presley released 108 singles while:

  • James Brown had 91
  • Ray Charles had 74
  • Aretha Franklin had 73 and
  • The Beatles released 71

In two seasons the show has earned two platinum and two gold albums and two Grammy nominations. In addition, Glee has been nominated for 19 Emmys (winning four) and 11 Golden Globes (winning three).
Despite this undeniable success and the rise of ‘show choirs’ on the back of the show’s popularity, opinion is still divided regarding the musicality of the productions. Although they refresh existing hits, they haven’t yet produced or performed any original material…
