Raven Girl, a new collaborative ballet project opens this week at the Royal Opera House in London.
Music Sales Classical’s very own Gabriel Yared composed the score to the production, working alongside the Royal Ballet’s Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor and award-winning writer Audrey Niffenegger, author of The Time Traveler’s Wife.
The ballet is Yared’s first new piece since Clavigo for Roland Petit and Paris Opera Ballet, and is Wayne McGregor’s seventh work for the Covent Garden venue’s main stage. Raven Girl runs from Friday May 24 to June 8.

Although best known for his film music scores for The Talented Mr Ripley, Cold Mountain and The English Patient, Lebanese composer Gabriel Yared has said he considers the medium of dance to be his favourite to work with:
“I have a love of composing for dance choreography. More so than for cinema, this medium satisfies my needs to compose for the illusion, the imagination.
“While cinema communicates its message essentially through image and dialogue, ballet on the other hand draws its inspiration for music. Choreography is born from it, music is often the source of dance and moment.”
Growing up in Beirut, Yared learned music by himself while attending a Jesuit boarding school in Beirut. While he has studied under such great masters as Dutilleux and Maurice Ohanna, he remains at heart a self-taught musician and composer, open to all kinds and styles of music.
At Musicroom.com you can discover the music of Gabriel Yared for piano, classical guitar and as duets for clarinet and cello.
