Freddie Mercury will return to the stage for We Will Rock You anniversary

Legendary Queen guitarist, Brian May, has announced that Freddie Mercury will “appear” on stage during a special performance of We Will Rock You, the West End show inspired by the band’s music.
According to May, Mercury, who passed away in 1991, will somehow feature on stage during a special performance of the show thanks to an “effect… an optical illusion of sorts.”
“People will come out saying, ‘did we actually see Freddie?'” he added.
Efforts to bring the iconic frontman back onto the stage have apparently been underway for some time, yet the concept feels incredibly current following the holographic Tupac Shakur performance at last month’s Coachella festival and reports that a digital Michael Jackson could soon be back, touring the globe.
May, aware of these recent developments, stated that Freddie’s appearance in the show would be all together different.
“It’s a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we’ve been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while,” he said.
“[That technique] is something we’ve looked at ourselves but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week it’s not really quite practical.”
The special performance will take place on May 14 to celebrate the 10^th anniversary of We Will Rock You’s run at the Dominion Theatre, London.
The show features all of the band’s greatest hits, including Bohemian Rhapsody, A Kind Of Magic and Don’t Stop Me, and is a firm favourite with Queen fans and musical theatre aficionados alike.
The Little Black Songbook of Queen has recently been released featuring over 80 of the band’s best tracks, with full lyrics and guitar chord boxes and symbols. The official We Will Rock You songbook to accompany the West End show is also available for piano, vocals and guitar.
