Father Says "Thank You" With Piano Lessons

Elio Pace teaches his daughter's saviour a few new notes.

One father is thanking a surgeon who helped to save his daughter’s life by teaching him to play rock piano.
Elio Pace told the Daily Mail he was at a loss as to how to thank Dr. Michael Rigby after he performed a successful operation on his eight-day-old daughter Marcella for her potentially-fatal heart condition.
However, when the physician revealed that he had always wanted to play rock and roll piano, the grateful father, a professional musician and singer, offered his services as a teacher.
“After 20 years in the music industry, this is my area of expertise. So I thought, what better way to reward Dr Rigby for saving Marcella than by sharing my expertise – though I realise it’s on a much lower level than his.”
Dr. Rigby, who had already been taught classical style, described it as the “most wonderful offer”, telling the newspaper: “While classical training is important, what I really wanted was to play soft rock, such as Neil Sedaka, Elton John and Norah Jones.”
The doctor, who is already at grade 4 level, said he really wants to master Are You Lonesome Tonight?, saying that playing the instrument offers great relaxation.
The pair are now planning a series of concerts to raise funds for the paediatric unit which looked after Marcella during her illness.
A wonderful story of perseverance, Elio says “Although we came together for a horrible reason, playing together with Dr Rigby and watching Marcella get better will put it all behind us.”
