This song was originally composed as an instrumental piece in 2001, but a year later words were added by an Irish lyrycist. It wasn't until 2003 that up-and-coming singing sensation Josh Groban recorded the song and made it a huge hit. The melody for "You Raise Me Up" is Celtic inspired. It's melancholic and emotional, yet inspirational. This arrangement appropriately gives the opening melody to the solo cello; then unassumingly transfers it to the 2nd Violin. When the melody finally gets to the first violin, the supporting instruments will pull at your heartstrings with their harmonies. This song is a real tear-jerker. It's a jewel.
