Call me “Old School”, but I’ve always dug a good “Vegas burner” to open a big band concert. As an arranger, it’s especially fun to take a tune that is normally done in a different context (e.g., a ballad) and rework it into a new uptempo setting. This advanced arrangement was written in 1999 for the US Army Jazz Ambassadors and features optional alto saxophone, trumpet, piano, and drums.
It was recorded in 2018 by the Ira B. Liss Big Band Jazz Machine on TASTY TUNES. They sound wonderful! Here's the link:
