The song made it to number one of the Billboard charts and is a Grammy Award winner. It is, in my opinion, one of the finest pop songs ever written. Its subtle harmonies, seamless modulations and chromatically-altered chords sit easily under a whimsical lyric. It is harmonic genius disguised as a light pop song. I also believe it to be much misunderstood by writers who comment only on the qualities of the vocal performance and production. It deserves its place in any performance of serious art music.
