Piano Wizardry
Wizards -- Three Magic Masters is really a very effective contemporary solo piano piece -- a good finisher for recitals and competitive events. There is a good sense of theater throughout, and very clear musical character for each differing type of magic that the three Wizards conjure. To my ear the thinking is tonal throughout, although the pianist should be prepared for a good deal of atonal lines and polytonal coloration, and also a good deal of Prokofievan virtuosity associated with the final Master. Recommended!
