“Windows” Etude – Angular/Baroque Walking Bass Line is an original study composed over the harmonic framework of Chick Corea’s classic composition “Windows.” Written in 3/4, this etude moves beyond conventional walking bass vocabulary, embracing angular intervallic motion, a blend of Baroque-inspired counterpoint and modern compositional techniques, and forward-driving voice leading designed to strengthen both harmonic control and melodic imagination.
Rather than relying on familiar scalar patterns or stock walking formulas, this study approaches the progression through a more architectural and contrapuntal lens—encouraging bassists to think compositionally while navigating the flowing harmonic movement of this jazz standard. Wider intervals, open voicings, implied polyphony, and melodic independence create bass lines that function both as strong accompaniment and as complete musical statements.
Fully notated in standard notation only, the study is intended for intermediate to advanced players seeking to expand their phrasing, harmonic fluency, linear awareness, and contrapuntal thinking—without tablature or positional shortcuts.
