The windjammers were among the grandest of all sailing vessels. In use in the late 1800s, windjammers typically had three to five masts, were square-rigged and were able to travel transatlantic routes up to sixteen knots, a considerable speed at the time.The power of these magnificent ships is reflected in the energetic pulse that drives Windjammer. Even at m. 78, where a "mini-fugue" is introduced, the underlying pulse and sense of urgency must not be lost in the transparency of this section. At all times the rhythmic drive must be maintained.
