Rich resource!
This collection of masterful pieces is a little known treasure! As varied in mood and as rich as Schumann's Album for the Young but with 20th century taste. Contains many teaching points such as unequal meter, syncopation in triple meter, unique challenges in balancing melody to accompaniment and exploration of modes. Mr. Mechem manages to encourage a student's imagination, artistry and sense of humor in tackling these pieces. He has much respect for the student and does not water down the artistic and technical demands while he renders immediacy and simplicity in the composition.
