Van oorsprong werd Oh, When The Saints gebruikt als begrafenismars, met name in New Orleans, Louisiana. Bij de begeleiding van de kist naar de begraafplaats werd het als klaagzang uitgevoerd. Op de terugweg was het dan de gewoonte om een ‘hot’ dixielandversie te spelen. Dat het mogelijk was om dit welbekende nummer nieuw leven in te blazen bewijst Anton Burger met dit arrangement. De klarinet/sopraansaxofoon, trompet en trombone vervullen een solo rol in deze originele bewerking.

Originally “Oh When the Saints” was used as a funeral march in places like New Orleans, Louisiana. The coffin would be escorted to the cemetery with a sombre lament, but on the way back it was custom to break out into a hot Dixieland version. This well known number has been given fresh life by arranger Anton Burger, and features the clarinet/soprano sax, trumpet and trombone in solo roles.

D’origine, ‘When The Saints’ était utilisé comme marche funèbre, notamment en New Orleans, Louisiana. C’était joué en élégie pour accompagner le cercueil au cimetière. Sur le chemin du retour c’était l’habitude de jouer une version ‘hot’ dixieland. Anton Burger prouve avec cet arrangement qu’il est possible d’insuffler une nouvelle vie dans ce numéro bien connu. La clarinette/saxophone soprano, la trompette et la trombone jouent un rôle de soliste dans cette adaptation originale.

Auf dem Rückweg war es dann der Brauch um eine 'hot' Dixielandversion zu spielen. Das es möglich war, um diese sehr bekannte Nummer neu zu beleben, beweist Anton Burger mit diesem Arrangement. Die Klarinette, das Sopransaxophon, die Trompete und die Posaune bekleiden eine Solorolle in dieser originellen Bearbeitung.
