Composed by H. Proctor-Gregg. Sheet Music and Books. Piano pieces by Humphry Procter Gregg, capturing the beauty - and essential sadness - of the natural world, particularly the ageless beauty of the hills, the lakes and the dales of his native Westmorland. Classical. Collection. Forsyths Publications #FPG01. Published by Forsyths Publications (FP.FPG01).
ISBN 9790570502479.
A superb introduction to one of the the work of one of the unheralded talents of twentieth century British music. Proctor-Gregg was the founder of the Music Department at the University of Manchester and its first professor. His compositions are influenced by Delius, and feature a profound feeling for the beauty - and essential sadness - of the natural world, particularly the ageless beauty of the hills, the lakes and the dales of his native Westmorland. Anyone who has seen the sun re-appear and heard birdsong after a hail shower over the Langdales in late April will see the point of the Westmoreland Sketch entitled Shower in Spring straight away.
Gregg was a prolific composer, although his output was perhaps overshadowed by other facets of his talented career. These sensitive pieces for piano were a product of his late years spent in his native county after retirement.
