Originally a ballad style folk song published in the 1970’s about sailors on supply ships in the 1800’s this song was reintroduced to the public in 2021 by Scottish artist Nathan Evans, who made it a global hit. The melody shifts around every part and the style and accompaniment changers when someone new takes over the melody. This arrangement has been transcribed from my brass quintet arrangement and keeps the idea that everyone gets a bit of the spotlight.
A fun sea shanty, but not just for nautical occasions – “Soon may the Wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum. One day, when the tonguin' is done, we'll take our leave and go.”.
