Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim completed Wave in 1967 as part his fifth studio album of the same name. In Portuguese, the song is also known as Vou Te Contar. After Jobim wrote the English lyrics to the song later that same year, Wave received further attention after Frank Sinatra recorded a version of the song in 1969 for his Sinatra & Company album, released one year later. The song continues to be performed extensively since its conception, with over five hundred recordings being made of the song. This arrangement of Wave was created as part of a final project for the arranger’s Jazz Scoring & Arranging course at Stephen F. Austin State University in Spring 2021. The instrumentation for this arrangement is as follows: soprano saxophone (includes optional written solo - chord changes are also included), alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, flugelhorn, trombone, electric piano (or electric guitar), electric bass, drum set, and conga drums. Score (in concert pitch) and parts are included with purchase.
