Wave is one of those marvelous Latin numbers for which Antonio Carlos Jobim is so famous. Apart from the usual demands of quartet playing, the real challenge here is to keep the groove going in the accompaniment while the lead player pulls the melody around. And the lead changes across all four parts! Without a rhythm section doing it for you, you’ll have to immerse yourself in that Latin groove. You have to feel the pulse of those eighth notes of the underlying rhythm to achieve the tight playing necessary to make this piece sound really convincing.
