Engeland bezit een enorme schat aan folksongs welke vooral dank zij het titanenwerk van Cecil Sharp (1859-1924) bewaard en geïnventariseerd werd. Ralph Vaughan Williams en Percy Grainger waren eveneens gek op dergelijke volksliedjes en gebruikten ze met succes in diverse composities voor blaasorkest. Eric Wheterell nam deze idee opnieuw op. Deze compositie is gebaseerd op het volksliedje uit het Engelse graafschap Somerset 'Waly, Waly' dat het hoofdthema vormt. Twee tegenmelodieën vormen de beide contrasterende overige thema's.

England boasts an enormous treasure of folksongs, many of those being preserved and listed thanks to the efforts of Cecil Sharp (1859-1924). The composers Ralph Vaughan-Williams and Percy Grainger were very keen on those folksongs and used many of them in several of their wind band compositions. Eric Wheterell resumed this idea. His composition is based on the Somerset folksong 'Waly, Waly' which provides the main theme. Two countermelodies build the two other themes.

Les compositeurs Ralph Vaughan-Williams et Percy Grainger raffolaient également de ces airs et en ont utilisé plusieurs dans leurs compositions pour orchestre d'harmonie. Eric Wheterell a repris cette idée. Sa composition est basée sur l'air populaire 'Waly, Waly' originaire du comté du Somerset, qui constitue le thème principal. Deux contre-mélodies produisent les deux autres thèmes.

Ralph Vaughan-Williams und Percy Grainger schätzten diese Volkslieder auch sehr und verwendeten sie oft mit großem Erfolg in verschiedenen Blasmusikkompositionen. Eric Wheterell hatte dieselbe Idee. Diese Komposition ist auf dem Volkslied aus der englischen Grafschaft Somerset 'Waly, Waly' gegründet. Das Lied bildet das Hauptthema, weil zwei Gegengesänge die übrigen zwei Themen bilden.
