Waterfall Meditation - Representative of a piece in Minor for the With Flats Or Sharps Key Signature Series of Cello Choir À La Mode, Waterfall Meditation is a flowing piece in 9/8 and A# Minor (7 sharps), that sparks the imagination with images of water. Reflective of the rest of the series, Waterfall Meditation is a three-part piece for cello trio to cello choir. Unlike the rest of the series, all three parts play melody at various times. Waterfall Meditation is the most advanced piece in the series, requiring tremendous speed and control over quiet pizzicato in the Cello 1 and 3 parts, and similarly with quiet arco in the Cello 2 part. Use of the thumb in 7 sharps is required in the Cello 1 part, recommending the Cello 1, 2, and 3 parts to Suzuki Volume 8 or above level cellists. The opportunity to play in A# Minor requires lots of shifting in each of the three parts. There is also the challenge of playing very quickly, very quietly. Waterfall Meditation is designed for the advanced Cello Choir, with challenges for fitting the parts together in time.
This second series, the With Flats Or Sharps Key Signature Series of Cello Choir À La Mode, is designed for the intermediate, advancing Cello Choir, and is generally more advanced than the No Flats Or Sharps Key Signature Series. Similar to the No Sharps or Flats Key Signature Series, most pieces offer cellists of varying levels the opportunity to play together.
