John Philip Sousa wrote over 130 military-style marches in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of which have become synonymous with American patriotic culture. The Washingto Post March was first performed in 1889 at an event being attended by U.S. President Benjamin Harris. This arrangement for String Trio retains all of the melodies, counter-melodies, and harmonies included in the original. In the last strain you will see that the cello has two parts, one for the first time, and a different one for the second time.
