Composed by Ernst Bach (1759 - 1845); Friedrich; Wilhelm. Arranged by Pat Spence. This edition: pdf. Chamber, Classical, Contest, Festival, Graduation, Instructional. 42 pages. Piper Publications #1278055. Published by Piper Publications (A0.1714550).

Wilhelm Ernst Friedrich Bach was the eldest son of Johann Christoph Bach and the only grandson of Johann Sebastian Bach to achieve fame as a composer. He received his musical education from his uncles, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and, in England, from Johann Christian Bach.

Wilhelm held posts of Kapellmeister of Minden in 1786 and in Berlin (1788 - 1811). He retired when King Wilhelm’s brother, Prince Heinrich granted him a pension. He never achieved the fame of his grandfather or his uncles but seems to have taken this in his stride commenting that “Heredity can tend to run out of ideas.” This Trio in G major, originally written for two flutes and viola is composed in classical style is an enjoyable four movement work which shows that the Bach legacy was by no means extinct.

Wilhelm’s eldest daughter, Caroline Augusta Wilhemine died in 1871, the very last survivor of the Bach family.

Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy this trio.
