Our sky is never the same – from day to day or even hour to hour. It holds the brightest and darkest things we will ever see, and in addition is capable of displaying every imaginable color and mood. Through this expressive work, Samuel Hazo has translated the many qualities of the sky into musical moods. The opening section features flowing melodies beautifully developed between soloistic and full ensemble playing. The “sinister” fast section features driving rhythms, mixed meters and a crescendo that evolves into a powerful setting of the original melody. Masterful Orchestration and Emotional Depth
Samuel Hazo's 'Voices of the Sky' showcases excellent orchestration for a Grade 3 concert band. The piece masterfully balances soloistic lines with full ensemble textures, allowing each section to contribute meaningfully. Excellent Choice for Developing Bands
Hazo's 'Voices of the Sky' is a fantastic Grade 3 piece for concert bands. The engraving is clear, making parts easy to read for students. Its varied moods and inclusion of mixed meters offer great opportunities to teach rhythmic precision and expressive playing. Gorgeous!
I am the trumpet soloist for the Calallen Middle School Honors Band, and I must say, this piece is absolutely glorious! It will have your audience wrapped around your conductors baton in no time!

BEAUTIFUL PIECE
My high school band played this for the '11 graduates. They all loved it, and all of our seniors were able to get a solo. also, because we didn't have a senior trumpet graduating, we substituted the Trumpet solo for an alto solo, which sounded just as beautiful. It's for sure recommended.
