    Refreshingly different

I read the other reviews after Ive had this book for years. I happen to love this book, give it a chance folks. Everyones stylings are formulaic, I took a chance with hers and love it, it is different, and the hand positions, fingering, especially left hand are not conventional and at times a bit awkward, but I appreciate her unique, refreshingly different interpretations. Sometimes we have to evaluate something more than once, Ive played through all of the selections multiple times, I used to steer away from those that were unfamiliar or deemed too hard, but you never grow by playing everything familiar or comfortable, you have to challenge yourself constantly. This book is truly advanced, not intermediate and requires mastery of technique and notes. I appreciate her stylings as they are different. We are so critical and judgmental when it comes to music, but before you write off her book, play through the whole book, give it a worthwhile chance.

    Not Great Arrangements

The arrangements in this book are a bit odd, and they don't fall naturally under my fingers. The medley of Come, Christians Join To Sing and Brethren, We Have Met to Worship is very interesting and I do like that one.

    Visions of Inspiration Book

I have really enjoyed this book of arrangements by Shirley Brendlinger. I have not played all of the pieces, but some of my favorites are Fairest Lord Jesus, Be Thou my Vision, and When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. The arrangements are rather difficult, but they are enjoyable to play and I like that they provide a fresh take on some famous and often performed hymns. Would definitely recommend!

    not good

the best that can be said for this is that most of the pieces are actually advanced. but her arrangements are very poor. she has no sense of the song and it's feeling. so, for example, she takes a beautiful, delicate song like be thou my vision, and makes a pounding arrangement with full chords and puts the melody in the bass. i love that song, and i can't stand to play this arrangement. there's not one piece in this collection i can use. it seems like the editor, if there was one, was asleep at the wheel.
