Originally composed for two pianos, 'Brazileira' is the third movement of Darius Milhaud's suite for two pianos Scaramouche. The arrangement presented here by Hiew Tzejia* merges the two-piano composition into a solo piano version. The aim of this adaptation is to stay faithful to the original score yet displays the arranger's own stylistic touch.
Owing to the difficulty of this arrangement, ossia staves had been added to provide a simpler alternative in certain parts of the music, with hopes to reach a wider audience.
The score published here was first completed in 2011, briefly revised in 2019, and finalised in 2025. It is the arranger's first concert transcription for solo piano.

*The arranger’s name is natively Chinese and follows Chinese naming conventions (where surnames are placed before given names), i.e. ‘Hiew’ is her surname and ‘Tzejia’ is her given name, and shall remain in this order when her full name is displayed. When performing this piece in public, the names of the composer and arranger must be mentioned jointly on the programme. In this case it should be ’Milhaud/Hiew’ or anything that conveys the same representation, and not ‘Milhaud/Tzejia’.
