Velvet Shoes by Randall Thompson Choir - Digital Sheet Music

By Randall Thompson

Thompson writes that the music should resemble "a march in the distance" referencing the experience of walking in the snow with velvet shoes. The vocal line moves predominently in stepwise motion which relates to the character trudging through snow. It is an exciting song for a young singer because of the clear character and experience referenced in the song.

Beautiful Vocal Solo

This piece is also arranged for choirs. My husband's choirs sang it every year for many years when he was a music educatof. It was sung by a soloist at his funeral per his request. The words are very fitting.
