Hot off the press! Composer Gerald Oswald bases this new work on an old Austrian folksong, O du lieber Augustin! The Augustin in questions is a ballad singer and an ad lib poet who apparently wrote this folksong about himself. His grim sense of humour and his attitude towards life, that humour can get you through anything, are readily apparent in this new piece. Gerald Oswald’s Variations on an Austrian Folk Song received top honours at the 2010 Austrian Composition Contest.
Met deze compositie maakte Gerald Oswald een bewerking van het Oostenrijkse volksliedje O du lieber Augustin. Het thema van dit lied komt telkens weer terug in gevarieerde vorm. Augustin was straatmuzikant en sneldichter. Waarschijnlijkwas hij zelf de bedenker van dit liedje. Zijn galgenhumor en zijn levensinstelling dat je met humor alles kunt overwinnen, zijn in deze compositie goed terug te vinden. Het werk viel in 2010 bij een Oostenrijkse compositiewedstrijdin de prijzen.
Der Komponist bearbeitete in seinem Werk das österreichische Volkslied O du lieber Augustin. Das Thema des Liedes ist in variierter Form und Charakter immer wieder erkennbar. Augustin, ein Bänkelsänger und Stegreifdichter wird selbst als Verfasser dieses Volksliedes genannt. Sein Galgenhumor und seine Lebenseinstellung, dass man mit Humor alles überstehen kann, sind in der Komposition gut erkennbar. Dieses Werk wurde beim Österreichischen Kompositionswettbewerb 2010 ausgezeichnet.
