Up Where We Belong by Buffy Sainte-Marie Guitar Ensemble - Digital Sheet Music

By Will Jennings

UP WHERE WE BELONG - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensemble

UP WHERE WE BELONG - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensembleDerek Hasted writes "This is a very accessible arrangement of an astonishingly lovely chart hit by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes, originally taken from the movie “An Officer And A Gentleman”.The music is set in the same keys as the original - D modulating to Eb. Most guitarists panic when they say that many flats, but if you finger the D section with no open strings, you’ll simply need to slide up one fret and the guitar does the work for you! Guitar 4 is tuned to 6=D to give extra depth to the ensemble.Guitar 1 is based on Jennifer’s line, and Guitar 2 on Joe’s. There are many videos of their many performances on YouTube and no two are the same, but this is an amalgam of the two versions that I enjoyed the most. Be aware that because the tune is sometimes in quite a low register, it’s important that the accompanying lines aren’t too loud or they will mask the melody. There are dynamics on the score that should help you get a balanced sound.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by "number of instruments", with links to soundclips and sample score.
