A number of Prince's band members collaborated with him to compose this piece. Shelia E. is one of them. It is a romantic musical comedy-drama. This piece features a lot of chromatic progressions. One could say that it is a "romantic-chromatic" piece. String players would listen to these chormatic progressions of consecutive half-steps, then play them. It can be used as a "chorale" warm-up as well. The movie itself was not very popular according to motion picture critics, however, since Prince passed away in 2016, a number of these critics have revisited this film and have considered it a "cult classic." This song can be played with or without piano and percussion.
