A rich and inventive setting of Mykola Leontovych's Ukrainian Bell Carol for clarinet choir. Scored for 4 clarinets, alto clarinet, and bass clarinet — all parts required — the full family voices the piece with warmth and depth across its dynamic range.
The arrangement opens softly in 3/4 before a shift to a driving 6/8 and back again at the same pulse. The melody builds from the bottom up, first heard in the bass and alto before working through the upper voices to the full ensemble chorus. A syncopated section layers the bell motif against an augmented version of itself stretched across two measures, while a descending chord sequence over a sustained pedal tone — moving up by step while the harmony falls beneath — drives a final key change into the closing build. The ensemble arrives at a single measure of full silence before the piece quietly dissolves. Approximately 3 minutes 45 seconds.
