This pieces was sparked while talking to a student about his trip through the middle of Australia, seeing the country and the light change over the vast empty interior of the country.
Uhta is an old english word refering to the eerie half darkness of the world just before the sun breaks the horizon, you will find the harmony grows from a very dark phrygian, moving through different modal settings, growing lighter and more radiant as the movement progresses.
Petrichor refers to the smell of rain on a warm day. Rain is almost always welcome and celebrated in Australia and there is joy in this piece.
