Haugen has given us two songs that fill one of the greatest needs in the repertoire: Communion songs that can be sung by heart while moving in procession. These are gems. "Christ Our Peace" alternates with solo stanzas in which the last note successfully overlaps the beginning of the refrain, creating a unity between refrain and verse. "Living Word, Living Bread" juxtaposes the popular Dona nobis pacem canon, set to new words, over verses from Psalm 34 sung by a cantor or section of the choir.
