Composed by Ivan (1747–1804); Khandoshkin. Arranged by Kamada; Mikio. This edition: pdf. Chamber, Classical. 15 pages. ACORDO Sheet Music #1410461. Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.1850806).Khandoshkin, Ivan (1747–1804) was a famous Russian violinist and composer. He was so skilled that people called him the "Russian Paganini." He created a unique style by mixing Russian folk songs with Italian music.
This piece is a set of variations on two Russian folk songs titled "What I Lose, I Love." It consists of a main theme followed by 13 variations. Originally written for Violin and Cello, I have arranged it for Violin and Viola.
I have created two different versions for you to choose from:
1. The Faithful Version
This version stays very close to the original score. In the original, Variations 3, 8, 12, and 13 are marked "sans basse" (without bass), and the lower part is blank. However, many players choose to play the theme there anyway. I have included the notes for the lower part in these sections, but I kept the "sans basse" label so you can decide whether to play them or not.
2. The Balanced Version
I created this version to make the piece more dynamic and fun for both players.
Swapping Roles: The violin and viola trade roles to add variety.
Creative Solos: In the "sans basse" sections, I included solo moments to keep the original feeling.
Easier Playing: In Variations 7 and 13, I simplified some difficult double stops or provided ossia (alternative easier notes) to make it more playable.
I hope you enjoy playing both versions and finding the style that fits you best.
