Notturno and Helena Polka-Arranged for Young String Quartet

This student arrangement of Notturno is combined with Helena Polka as a nice change of pace creating a Borodin medley. Of its four movements, the third movement "Notturno,” is the most famous movement of Borodin’s 1881, String Quartet No. 2 in D major. Some scholars suggest that It was dedicated to his wife Ekaterina Protopova as a 20th anniversary gift and that it has a program evoking the couple's first meeting in Heidelberg. The solo cello part in the original is distributed to other voices to maintain student interest. Originally for two pianos, the Borodin Helena Polka is a jovial piece with typical changes of pace to reflect the dance form All bowings are included and a Violin3/substitute for Viola part is included to bolster the Viola section.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
