"Duniya" is a chant of exhortation inspired by "griot" or "praise-chanting" vocal traditions from the Mali/SeneGambia sub-region of West Africa. Appropriately, the piano accompanist surrogates mannerisms from the four-stringed "kontingo" and the robust low drones of the multi-stringed "kamelangoni." The text is based on ancient Mandinka poetry about the unsurpassed wisdom of an Almighty, Supreme God, who must be the true and only architect of the universe.
