The Trio G major / E minor op. 103 by the Oppenheim composer and student Max Reger can be assigned to the composer's late work based on the opus number, even if no year of composition or premiere can be determined. The work for the unusual instrumentation of clarinet, horn and piano presented the editor Wolfgang Birtel with the challenge of developing an authentic musical text from the original manuscript, which was riddled with careless errors. Since no other sources for this work are available, the practical exchange with the Else Ensemble was a great benefit for Birtel. The current edition of this trio makes another attractive chamber music work by this late-romantic composer accessible.
