Wonderful, but...
When I heard this piece played by Nicole Molumby, flute, Andrea Ridilla, oboe, and the composer, Blaz Pucihar on piano, I intermediately knew it was something I wanted to program. The scoring is just about perfect and the piece contains much melodic writing that is quite beautiful. That being said, I was disappointed that the printed piano part is not what we hear on the recording. (amazon.com/Awakening) There are significant melodic and harmonic structures that Mr. Pucihar plays on the recording that are not present in the part. Thus, a lot of the inner voices and rhythmic vigor that add so much color and interest would have to be recreated by the pianist in order to replicate the recorded part. I wrote to Mr. Pucihar and expressed my disappointment at the skeletal nature of the published part. He responded, which I appreciate, and said that he often improvises on his recordings and he did so on this recording. I just wanted other potential purchasers to be aware.
