Scherzo for Solo Double Bass and Two Mallet Percussion. Composed by Alfred Reed. Performance Music Ensemble; Single Titles; Solo Double Bass. Kalmus Chamber Library. Masterwork. Score. LudwigMasters Publications #36-A453901. Published by LudwigMasters Publications (AP.36-A453901).
ISBN 9798888525975. UPC: 676737859862. English.
This scherzo composed by Alfred for solo Double Bass, Vibraphone, and Marimba was commissioned by the Frederick Zimmermann Memorial Fund for Lucas Drew, Principal Double Bass of the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra, and Professor of Double Bass at the School of Music of the University of Miami. The work is conceived so as to be playable both by the traditional acoustic Bass and the Electric Bass. The title implies all three instruments sharing in the musical dialogue on an equal basis, and since there are three participants rather than two, the derivation of the title is obvious.
