In 2021, I did a musical setting of texts from Sir Isaac Newton's "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica," in particular excerpts from Book III in which he wrote about the gravitational forces between the sun and the planets. I recently discovered that Ludwig Wittgenstein's magnum opus, "Tractatus Logic- Philosophicus," consisted of seven propositions. Each proposition is laid out in a sequence of aphorisms. These were presented in short sentences like in a poem, line after line. I immediately thought these "poetic" propositions would make a nice song cycle for tenor and piano. Why not? The work is in seven movements. Enjoy!!! 1. Die Welt is alles, was der Fall ist. 2.02 (a) Der Gegenstand ist einfach. 2.1 (b) Wir machen uns Bilder der Tatsachen. 3.001 Ein Sachverhalt ist denkbar. 4.014 Die Grammophonplatte ... 5.154 In einer Urne seien gleichviel weiße und schwarze Kugeln. 6.1261 In der Logik sind Prozess und Resultat äquivalent. 7. Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen.
