Published by Lightning Music Service (A0.1558046).Tombik” means “chubby” in Turkish. The piece's title is inspired by the cat “Tombili,” to whom the composer was very attached. The main characteristics of the piece are as follows: the first movement is in 9/8, but divided into 4 beats (2+2+2+3) instead of 3 (3+3+3), reflecting an original rhythmic structure. It is a traditional dance widely practiced in almost all regions of Turkey. The second movement, on the other hand, is slow and serves as an excellent example of traditional melodies; the solo mandolin stands out with its approach in the “Taksim” style, utilizing various scales of Turkish music. The third movement, however, does not exist due to the loss of Tombili, the cat.
