Toccata Op. 2 Piano - Sheet Music

Toccata for two pianos is one of Górecki's earliest works, composed when he was still a student of the Katowice State Higher School of Music. It was first performed in 1958, together with the composer's other works (Variations, Quartettino, Songs of Joy and Rhythm, Sonata for two violins, Concerto Op. 11) at his first monograph concert organized at the Katowice Philharmonic. "Toccata", alluding in its sound layer to folk music, is a harbinger of the composer's love of Polish folk art, to which he has often given vent in his works. [Based on A. Thomas, Górecki, Kraków 1998, PWM]
