Toccata e Fantasia was inspired by the composers’ love of Anton Bruckner’s fantastic wind instrument scoring in his symphonies. Within Toccata e Fantasia Thomas Doss has used several of Bruckner’s motifs. In addition to these obvious references you will also find hints of Eastern music with the small motifs being repeated again and again in a sort of Indian guru’s mantra, and an improvised blues section with a Big Band feel! A unique concert work that will thrill your audience.

Auf eine östlich angehauchte Toccata folgt die Fantasia, in der Bruckner als Organist und Improvisator auftritt: Hier fließen neben kontrastiven improvisatorischen blue shades“ auch Anklänge aus dem Choral der 5. Sinfonie ein, bevor die Toccata das Werk stürmisch beendet. Bruckner und Brass-Band-Musik: in diesem Stück eine gelungene Verbindung!

Pour composer cette œuvre, Thomas Doss s’est laissé inspirer par la sublime beauté des parties pour instruments vent des symphonies d’Anton Bruckner. La texture de Toccata e Fantasia est construite partir de plusieurs motifs brucknériens.Après une introduction puissante, apparaît une toccata aux couleurs orientales, qui énonce des rythmes irréguliers. Les motifs de Bruckner, répétés inlassablement, résonnent alors comme le mantra d’un gourou hindou. Dans le passage central, nous découvrons Bruckner l’organiste-improvisateur. Fantasia improvise un cama eu de bleu qui se faufile travers le tissu musical et lui offre un contraste de couleurs, tendance BigBand. L’orchestration complète dessine gros traits la mélodie chorale extraite de la Cinquième Symphonie. La Toccata clôt la pièce dans une atmosphère turbulente.
