Toccata and Fugue in D minor for Piano Solo, from Bach's organ score by Johann Sebastian Bach Organ - Digital Sheet Music

By Johann Sebastian Bach

There are two T and F's in D min of Bach, and this is the One You Are Looking For! Most of the transcriptions of this eternal masterpiece are virtuoso-level material, being dressed up with technical additions of every sort, so as to make the Concert Artist look Magnificent. All well and good for them, but what about us Normal People? This arrangement/transcription accomplishes both its playability AND its artistic integrity by simply Keeping It Real. The piece is as close to the original organ score as is possible for two hands at a single keyboard. Octaves have only been added to simulate the registration or probable volume of a particular passage. The tempo indicated might seem a bit relaxed for some tastes, yet, it makes the 16th-notes playable. If one has the pianistic and musical wherewithall, crank up the heat, and make it fly a bit higher and faster! Approx. running time at suggested tempo is 12:30 mins. Pedal freely, to simulate an organ hall, or play it dryer for more contrapuntal clarity. New edition as of Oct 3 2018 has better voice-assignment and editorial fixes of wrong notes. MBB
