Mary Kenneth Keller, B.V.M. was an American Catholic Sister (Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary) who was the first woman and one of the first people in the United States to earn a Ph.D in Computer Science (University of Wisconsin, Madison). After completing her doctorate, Keller founded one of the first computer science departments at a small college (Clarke University). Sister Mary Kenneth was a strong advocate for the involvement of women in the field of computer science. Today, many of her former students hold prominent positions in major areas of computer science.
This piece was written to honor Sr. Mary Kenneth Keller. "To Look Toward the Future" was written to provide contemporary literature honoring the achievements of women playable by bands of smaller sizes.
